Hi! Donna here. I have been practicing Eastern medicine for over 20 years. While living in Santa Fe in the late 1990s, a fertility journey opened my eyes to the wonders of Functional Medicine (Fx Med). Before starting TCM/Acupuncture school, I was reading and learning all about this “new” approach to health. Following people like Dr. Andrew Weil and Jeffery Bland, PhD. I was learning the importance of eating a certain way, taking supplements and doing Metagenics cleanses through a wellness practice that had a chiropractor, an acupuncturist and a colon hydrotherapist, all committed to getting to the root cause of the imbalances of their patients. It turns out that the 90s was when Fx Med was really growing roots, (even though the term was actually coined over 150 years ago.) I then enrolled in Acupuncture school where I received a Master of Science in Chinese Medicine. It seemed the best path to take in order to continue aligning with this expanding way of looking at health. I’ve come to believe that TCM as I was taught is the ORIGINAL Fx Med - For 3000+ years, TCM works to find the root cause of the patterns of dis-harmony in the human body.
Fast forward to today, connecting the past with the future to add a more robust functional approach at Thirteen Moons seems a natural progression on the journey of helping people return to health. Fx Med is now firmly rooted and growing big branches all over the place. And not a moment too soon! This IS the future of medicine and in my opinion, it is the NOW of medicine. As we watch our systems - ALLLL the systems - breaking down right before our eyes, it is becoming crystal clear that finding, restoring, creating health is the key to our survival on this planet and the great news is, there are MANY people who have been paying attention, studying, learning, developing systems, researching best nutrients, food, and exercise plans.
